About Kerala: Kerala also known as Gods own country is famous for its back waters. It is the southern state of India. Its original name is Keralam which was later changed to Kerala as it was adopted by English Language. Keralam is a combination of two words "keram" and Alam which are Malayam words. "keram" in Malayam means coconut and "Alam" means land or place, therefore the name Keralam means "Land of Coconut Palms".

The best time to visit Kerala is between October till April. We suggest this itinerary for travelers of all age group. The destinations included are the must visited places if you are traveling to Kerala the very first time. This itinerary contains the essence of Kerala.

Description of the Program

Day 01 (Arrive Cochin)
Up on arrival in Cochin today you will be received at the airport and transferred to your hotel. In the afternoon you will be taken for the half day city tour of Cochin visiting Fort Cochin, Dutch Palace (closed on Friday), St. Francis church, Jews Synagogue (closed on Friday and Saturday) and Chinese fishing net.

In the evening you will take a sunset evening cruise which offers the perfect opportunity to capture the famous Chinese fishing nets against the setting sun.

About Cochin: Known as the 'Queen of the Arabian Sea' Cochin is the commercial capital of Kerala. Cochin has a rich past and gained the status of main business hub of this region long back. Comprising of mainland of Ernakulam, the islands of Willington, Bolgatty and Gundu in the harbor, Fort Cochin and Mattancherry on the southern peninsula, and Vypeen Island north of Fort Cochin, all the parts of Kochi are well-linked by ferries. Overnight: Cochin

Day 02 (Cochin-Munnar)
A leisurely start to the day. You will be driven to Munnar approximately a 4 hours drive from Cochin. Once you reach Munnar you will be transferred to your hotel.

Rest of the day and evening will be at leisure. You can explore the beautiful surroundings of Munnar or can also enjoy some easy treks organized by the hotel on direct payment.

About Munnar: It is a popular hill station of Kerala and famous for its tea plantations. Munnar is located at an altitude of 1600 meters above the sea level and was once the summer resort of the British government in South India. This small little town has many colonial bungalows, tea factories, wildlife sanctuaries and many lakes. It is located at the confluence of three mountain streams namely Mudrapuzha, Nallathanni and Kundala.

Day 03 (Munnar-Thekkady)
After taking breakfast at the hotel coffee shop you will be driven to Thekkady approx 3 hours drive from Munnar.

Upon arrival in Thekkady you will be transferred to your hotel. In the afternoon you will be taken for spice plantation visit and you will explore the national park on boat.

About Thekkady: Thekkady boasts of one of the largest game parks of India - the Periyar Tiger Reserve, where you may spot the elusive tiger and more likely elephants, wild dogs and a large variety of birds. While here you can do game viewing by boat, go trekking in the jungle or go for a guided walk through a spice garden.

Day 04 (Thekkady-Kumarakom)
Today you will be driven west for 3 ½ hours to Kumarakom - 10 kms from Kottayam - for the famous backwater experience.

Upon arrival in Kumarakom you will be transferred to your hotel. Rest of the day will be at leisure.

About Kumarakom: Kerala, as the cliché goes, is God\'s own country; and Kumarakom is its sanctum sanctorum. This rich green, sleepy little village of Kumarkom is located on the Vembanad lake amidst mangrove forests and coconut groves. Kumarakom is an enchanting touristic spot and provides boating, fishing and sightseeing experiences that are truly exhilarating.

Day 05 (Backwaters continued Kumarakom - Alleppey)
A lazy start to the day and later you will be transferred to your houseboat also known as Kettuvallam for a slow and romantic journey through the meandering backwaters as you watch local life going on by the banks. In the evening the boat will anchor safely for the night.

About Alleppey: Also known as the Vanes of the east by the western travelers Alleppeyhas Arabian sea on the west cost and lakes, lagoons and fresh water rivers crisscrossing it. The Palm fringed canals and shores bustling with glimpses from the day to day life in the country side, the mirror still lagoons, picture book lakesides and its long sandy beach has blessed Alappuzha, the water locked district, to become one of the best Backwater tourism destinations in God\'s Own Country.

Day 06 (Alleppey-Kovalam)
In the morning the boat will journey towards the disembarkation point at Alleppey. You will be met by the driver and driven south for around 4 hours to a beach resort south of Trivandrum city where you will spend your last night.

Upon arrival in Kovalam you will be received and transferred to your hotel. Rest of the day will be at leisure.

About Kovalam: Kovalam means a grove of coconut trees and truly the coconut trees along the beaches gives it a ravishing look. Kovalam is famous due to its natural beauty and fine sand washed beach, which makes sunbath on these silver sands possible. Overnight: Kovalam
